Now that Thanksgiving weekend is over, many of you are feeling the after effects of excess sugar and carbohydrates.

The traditional Thanksgiving meal can be quite troublesome for your body, especially when it comes to digestion.

Luckily, you can be back to normal in no time with a few simple steps.

1. Drink 6-8 glasses of water each day.

I know, you really just want to chug some egg-nog in preparation for Christmas, but your gut will really thank you if you flush it out with some good ole H20.

Although it seems simple to drink more water, if you aren't in the habit of doing so, it can take putting reminders in your phone or sticky notes at your desk to make it happen.

2. Eat a large dark leafy green salad each day for lunch this week.

After all of the sugar and heavy foods you consumed all weekend, your body is craving something light and nutritious. Dark leafy greens are full of fiber and detoxifying nutrients to help flush out your system.

Try this mason-jar salad recipes for an easy way to bring your salads to work!

3. Start your mornings with warm lemon water.

Lemon is incredibly beneficial for giving the digestive system a boost + detoxing the body.

You can read more about lemon water here.

4. Eat or drink 1/2 cup of a raw, fermented food.

Fermented foods are amazing at decreasing sugar cravings and building up a healthy gut flora.

If your gut flora is imbalanced from too much sugar, antibiotic use, stress, processed foods, and more, you will feel bloated, tired, anxious, and hold on to weight around the mid-section.

By consuming foods like raw sauerkraut, kefir, and yogurt, you will balance out the flora in your gut leading to vibrant health.

5. Get moving!

Even if you've never worked out before, try to schedule in 15-30 minutes of daily activity.

A simple walk, living room workout, or hike is enough to get the endorphins moving which will give you a surge of energy for the day and help move things along with digestion (if you know what I mean).

If you want to learn how to incorporate all of these habits plus more, I'd love for you to join my January SummitFIT Academy program.
